Workiva does not publish a price list. Its pricing is quote only, built from the solution you buy, the named users and the reports you run. Recorded purchase data on Vendr puts the median Workiva contract at $50,000 a year, with 167 purchases between $12,811 and $153,365, from a page Vendr last updated in January 2026. Treat those as reported planning figures and confirm your own quote with Workiva.
Workiva is the cloud platform public companies use for SEC filings, XBRL tagging, ESG disclosure and, for some, SOX controls and internal audit. If you are here with a quote in hand, this page covers what buyers report paying, what moves the number, where Workiva fits a SOX program and where it does not, and what a controls-first tool costs by comparison.
How much does Workiva cost?
Workiva costs a median of about $50,000 a year, based on Vendr's Workiva page, with recorded purchases from roughly $12,811 to $153,365 and an average saving of 11% off the first quote. Vendr found no published list price, so a single-solution contract for a small team sits near the bottom of that range and a multi-solution bundle for a large finance organization sits near the top.
| Figure | Reported value | Source and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Median annual contract | $50,000 | Vendr Workiva page, last updated January 2026, 167 purchases |
| Reported low | $12,811 a year | Vendr, same page |
| Reported high | $153,365 a year | Vendr, same page |
| Average saving | 11% | Vendr, against the first quote |
| Published list price | None | Quote only, according to Vendr |
Vendr's page also gives a deal count in a summary box that differs from the 167 in its headline, so use the range to test a quote, not to budget to one number.
What drives the Workiva quote
- Solution scope. Financial reporting and SEC compliance, ESG and sustainability, internal audit and risk, and enterprise bundles are priced as separate solutions. Each one you add raises the total.
- Named users and roles. Administrators and power users cost more than viewers and contributors. Moving occasional reviewers to a lighter role is the usual saving.
- Reports, filings and connected data. Document and data volume can set caps, and some contracts charge overage past them.
- Implementation and training. Vendr reports these are quoted separately and can be a large share of first-year spend, especially for a migration from spreadsheets or a legacy tool.
- Connectors. ERP and data warehouse connectors can be add-ons. Ask which are in the base subscription.
- Term. Multi-year and prepaid terms are where buyers report the largest discounts. Vendr suggests starting 60 to 90 days before a decision.
Is Workiva worth it for SOX compliance?
Workiva is worth the price for SOX when the filing is the hard part. Its center of gravity is the 10-K, the 10-Q and the XBRL tagging, with controls linked to the document that discloses them. It is a weaker fit when the hard part is collecting the evidence from your systems, such as quarterly access reviews, change approvals and job logs behind the IT general controls.
That is why many companies run Workiva in finance and a separate tool for the control evidence. Before you let a Workiva SOX module expand your quote, list the controls your auditor actually tests and ask who produces the evidence for each one. Our comparison of the best SOX compliance software sets the options side by side, and SOX compliance software for ITGC evidence covers the layer Workiva does not target.
Workiva vs Scrutineer
| What you need | Workiva | Scrutineer |
|---|---|---|
| SEC filings, XBRL and earnings documents | Built for it | Not a filing tool |
| ESG and sustainability disclosure | Dedicated solution | Not offered |
| Evidence for ITGC and access reviews | Possible through audit and risk modules | Collected from your systems and tied to each control |
| SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA readiness | Not the focus | Included in the plan |
| Pricing | Quote only, reported median $50,000 | Growth at $1,200 a month or $7,200 a year |
The honest summary. If you file with the SEC, Scrutineer is not a replacement for Workiva and does not try to be. If your quote is growing mainly because of the controls and audit modules, and your auditor wants system evidence for access, change management and operations, pricing a controls-first tool next to it is worth an afternoon. If ESG reporting is why Workiva is on your shortlist, the emissions numbers feed it from somewhere, and Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from your invoices is the step that sits before any disclosure platform.
Workiva alternatives and how their pricing compares
The names buyers compare most often are Optro (formerly AuditBoard), Diligent and Pathlock for the controls side, and DFIN for filings. Optro is also quote only, which we cover in AuditBoard pricing and what buyers pay. Which is cheaper depends on the scope: a filing-only contract and a SOX-testing contract are different purchases, so compare like with like before you read anything into a lower quote.
How to get an accurate Workiva quote
- Write down which solutions you need this year, not the bundle you might grow into.
- Count writers, reviewers and read-only users separately, since roles drive the license line.
- Ask for implementation, training, connectors and support as their own lines.
- Get the price for added users and modules mid-term in writing, because Vendr reports mid-term additions are often priced at list.
- Bring a written quote from a second tool to the negotiation, and start 60 to 90 days ahead.
If your SOX or SOC 2 evidence is the cost driver, run a sample control in the demo at the top of this page. It shows a control tied to the system evidence behind it. Scrutineer is readiness software, so your external auditor still issues any opinion or attestation.
Frequently asked questions
Does Workiva have a free plan?
No free plan is listed for Workiva. Vendr reports quote-only annual subscriptions, with a lowest recorded contract near $12,811 a year.
How much does Workiva cost per user?
Workiva does not publish a per-user price. Vendr describes pricing as tiered by named user role, with administrators and power users costing more than viewers, so the per-user figure depends on your mix.
Is Workiva the same as WebFilings?
Yes. The company began as WebFilings and was renamed Workiva in July 2014.
Is Workiva negotiable?
Yes. Vendr reports an average saving of 11% off the first quote, with larger discounts for multi-year terms, prepayment and a documented alternative.
Does Workiva replace a SOC 2 or SOX evidence tool?
It can host SOX controls next to the filing, but it is not built around collecting system evidence for access, change and operations controls. Many teams add a controls-first tool for that layer.
