Scytale does not print a price on its own website, but its AWS Marketplace listing does. The Scytale AI GRC Platform lists at $7,500 for a 12-month contract covering platform access and one framework, with each extra framework at $2,100 and add-on packages for consulting ($4,000), penetration testing ($4,500), a third-party audit ($4,200), AI questionnaire answering ($12,000) and a virtual compliance officer ($36,000). Every line is marked as a starting price that moves with company size, so treat it as the floor of your quote.
That puts Scytale at the low end of the SOC 2 automation market on platform price, close to Sprinto and well under Vanta, Drata and Secureframe. The catch is that most startups do not buy the platform alone. Scytale sells itself as a platform plus done-for-you services, and once you add the consulting, the pen test and the audit, the total looks very different from $7,500. Here is what is public, what each add-on costs on the listing, and how to read a quote.
How much does Scytale cost?
Scytale costs at least $7,500 a year for the platform with one framework, based on the 12-month contract price on its AWS Marketplace listing as we read it in October 2026. A SOC 2 program with Scytale's consulting, a pen test and the audit bundled in starts at about $20,200 a year on the same listing. The listing labels every price "starting price (get quote)" and ties it to organization size.
For planning, a US SaaS startup under 50 people that wants software only and will hire its own auditor should budget near $7,500, plus the audit fee from a CPA firm. A company that wants Scytale to run the project, test the app and bring the auditor should plan for $20,000 or more. A second framework, such as ISO 27001 next to SOC 2, adds $2,100 at list.
Scytale pricing on AWS Marketplace
The AWS listing is the only place Scytale publishes dollar figures. It is sold as a 12-month contract with an auto-renew badge, and it splits into one software line and seven service packages. These are the figures as listed, read on October 25, 2026.
| Line item | What it covers | 12-month starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Software platform | Platform access and one framework, priced per organization size | $7,500 |
| Additional framework | One more framework, such as SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI DSS, with automation and support | $2,100 |
| Framework consulting | A dedicated compliance expert supporting the project | $4,000 |
| Offensive security | Penetration testing | $4,500 |
| 3rd party audit | Audit services offered through Scytale | $4,200 |
| Security questionnaires | Questionnaire answering with AI and expert review | $12,000 |
| Virtual compliance | A personal vGRC or vDPO expert with full support | $36,000 |
Two things matter more than any single number. First, every line says the price is a starting point by quote, so a 200-person company should not expect the 20-person price. Second, the contract auto-renews through AWS, which suits a company with an AWS spend commitment it wants to burn down, but it also means the renewal date needs an owner on your side.
Scytale plans for startups and security teams
Scytale's own pricing page, read the same week, shows tiers without prices and routes every button to a demo. For startups it lists three bundles. Build Starter is the platform with one framework. Build DFY, short for done for you, adds the LaunchReady consulting plan and a black-box web app pen test. Build Stronger swaps in the StayReady consulting plan and a gray-box pen test. For security teams it lists Scale, which adds custom frameworks, on-prem integrations and faster SLAs, and Enterprise, which is fully custom.
The bundle names map cleanly to the AWS line items. Build Starter is the $7,500 platform line, and the DFY and Stronger bundles are that line plus the consulting and pen test packages. Vendr's Scytale page still lists three older product names, Prime, Pro and Pro Plus, with no prices. If you are renewing on one of those, ask which current bundle it maps to.
What a Scytale quote looks like for three buyers
Adding up the listed starting prices gives a fair floor for the three most common purchases. Your quote will differ with headcount, scope and discounts, but these totals show where the money goes.
| Buyer | Lines on the order | List total, year one |
|---|---|---|
| Startup, SOC 2 only, software alone, own auditor | Platform with one framework | $7,500 plus your auditor's fee |
| SaaS company adding ISO 27001 to SOC 2 | Platform plus one extra framework | $9,600 plus audit fees |
| Startup that wants it done for them | Platform, consulting, pen test and 3rd party audit | $20,200 |
| Same, plus questionnaire answering | All of the above plus the security questionnaire package | $32,200 |
The audit line is worth comparing outside Scytale. Independent CPA firms quote SOC 2 audits across a wide range, and our breakdown of SOC 2 audit cost shows what drives a Type 1 versus a Type 2 fee. A bundled audit is convenient, but get one outside quote before you sign so you know what the convenience costs.
What pushes a Scytale price up
Company size comes first, because the platform line is priced per organization size. After that, the number of frameworks is the most predictable driver at $2,100 each. The services are the biggest swing: consulting, pen testing and the audit together add $12,700 at list, and the virtual compliance officer at $36,000 costs more than four years of the platform alone.
Questionnaire answering is the other line to watch. At $12,000 a year it costs more than the platform, so if your sales team mostly needs help with incoming security questionnaires, price a dedicated tool against it. Our ranking of the best security questionnaire automation software covers the main options.
Scytale vs Sprinto, Vanta and Drata pricing
Scytale's pricing model is close to Sprinto's. Both list a $7,500 platform with one framework on AWS, and both charge per extra framework, $2,100 at Scytale and $2,000 at Sprinto on its listing, as our Sprinto pricing guide details. The difference is what sits around the platform: Scytale leans harder on bundled consulting, pen testing and audit packages.
Vanta, Drata and Secureframe start higher on the platform alone, and each publishes its own AWS listing. Our guides to Vanta pricing, Drata pricing and Secureframe pricing break down each listing and what buyers report paying. Competitor prices change often, so confirm every figure with the vendor before you rely on it.
Scytale pricing vs Scrutineer pricing
| Question | Scytale | Scrutineer |
|---|---|---|
| Are prices public? | On AWS Marketplace only, as starting prices by quote | Yes, every plan is on the pricing page |
| Software with one framework, per year | From $7,500 | Essentials, $3,588 billed annually |
| Several frameworks, per year | $7,500 plus $2,100 per extra framework | Growth, $7,200 billed annually, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS mapped together |
| Security questionnaire answering | $12,000 add-on | Included on Growth and above |
| Consulting, pen test and audit | Sold as add-on packages | Not offered, you hire your own auditor and tester |
| Vendor risk assessments | Quote | Included on Risk+, $15,000 billed annually |
The honest summary: if you want one vendor to run the whole project, including the pen test and the audit, Scytale sells that and Scrutineer does not. If your team can do the work with good software and wants to pick its own auditor, our SOC 2 compliance software covers five frameworks on Growth for less than Scytale's platform plus two extra frameworks.
Is Scytale worth the price?
For a small team with no one to own compliance, the done-for-you bundle often is. Paying about $20,000 for software, a consultant, a pen test and the audit in one contract can cost less than the hours an engineer would spend coordinating three vendors, and it gets a first SOC 2 report into a sales cycle sooner.
It is a weaker buy if you already have a security lead or a preferred audit firm. In that case you pay for services you will not use, and the platform price is the only line that matters. It is also worth pausing before the $36,000 virtual compliance package: at that price, compare it with a fractional security hire.
How to get an accurate Scytale quote
- Decide whether you want software only or the done-for-you bundle. That choice moves the quote more than anything else.
- List every framework you need in year one and year two. Each extra one is $2,100 at list, so ask for multi-year framework pricing in writing.
- Get one independent quote for the audit and the pen test before you accept the bundled packages.
- If you buy through AWS Marketplace, confirm the private offer terms and put the auto-renewal date into your contract management software with a reminder 90 days out.
- If you are on a legacy Prime, Pro or Pro Plus plan, ask which current bundle it maps to and get the renewal price for both.
- Ask for a renewal cap in the order form, since the platform line is priced by organization size and grows with you.
If you want to see what a flat-priced readiness check finds before you talk to anyone's sales team, run the demo at the top of this page. It scores a sample framework the same way it would score yours.
